Office Details:
The Excise department, Government of Assam is responsible for implementation of the state excise policy and in this process; it regulates the manufacture, storage, import, export and supply of liquor and other notified intoxicants within the state. The department administers the Assam Excise Act, 2000 and the Rules framed there under. The Excise department is one of the major revenue earning departments of the State and it mopped up Rs.126 crores for the fiscal year 2021-22 by the Excise Branch, Hojai. It is the endeavor of the department to optimize the collection of excise revenue through regulated sale of liquor, to prevent the sale/consumption of illicit liquor and to check drug abuse to promote a peaceful and healthy society.

Works/Service under the Office:
The Excise Department is responsible for regulation of sale of alcohol and other approved intoxicants and the prevention of illicit distillation and clandestine trade of illicit liquor. The Department is also responsible for additional resource mobilization to the State.
